I am not one to listen to much "praise & worship" music, but I have been listening to a lot of Telecast recently and I must say that their new album "Quiet Revolution" is spectacular. For the most part I write off the "praise & worship" genre as complete bull!$#@ because I have a difficult time understanding how one can make an honest living selling their "worship" songs. What happens when you run low on the dough? That goes out to you, Chris Tomlin, winner of 13 Dove Awards, 3 of which are for the best worship song. As Scotty once said, I'm sure they polled God on that one. I'm skeptical.
Cynicism aside, Telecast seems legit. Their musicianship is top notch and the lyrics are solid. Check out a couple of their songs here.
Of Note:
I do not dislike Chris Tomlin or any of his kind (Crowder, Matt Redman, Third Day...well, maybe I have honest issues with Third Day) I just find the "Praise & Worship" industry as a profitable market that is all too easy to manipulate. Any Christian would have to admit that it would be difficult to keep your focus on Jesus when you're raking in the dough from some song you wrote about Jesus. Natural reasoning says if you write more songs about Jesus you will get more money and that is where I see major issues. I don't know about any of those people and honestly hope they do not fit that profile, but I can't help but be a bit skeptical. We need people like this guy.
