Let's Call It Quits

Discipleship (growing and maturing as a follower of Jesus) is difficult, not because it's hard to behave according to a set of precepts, but because Jesus calls us to a new mentality - behavior that goes beyond physical acts. Legislating peace in our hearts is as possible as getting Joe Arpaio to share a cup of tea with an immigrant. The Gospel is about being, not doing (or enforcing). It's about personal, cultural, and communal transformation. The Gospel transcends all of that, even, so I'll just quit trying to describe it now. With a Gospel mentality lets legislate, but I have a feeling the need to control those outside of the Church will fade...
